ISSEY MIYAKE
ISSEY MIYAKE
Japanese designer Issey Miyake founded the Miyake Design Studio in Tokyo in 1970. In the late 1980s, he began to experiment with new methods of pleating that would allow both flexibility of movement for the wearer as well as ease of care and production. This eventually resulted in a new technique called garment pleating in which the garments are cut and sewn first, and then sandwiched between layers of paper and fed into a heat press, where they are pleated. The iconic label today, is ran by Satoshi Kondo, a new member of the Miyake Design Studio since taking the reins in 2019. The label's jackets, tops, pants and dresses carry on the tradition of experimenting with new methods and techniques season after season producing smart designs with modern aesthetics.
